The gas stove revolution

It is quite difficult now to realize how gas stoves revolutionized cooking in India from the smoky, inconsistent and difficult-to-manage chulahs burning wood as fuel, or the smelly, noisy and potentially dangerous kerosene stoves to the smooth, easy-to-control, smokeless and efficient gas cooking of the present era.  The gas stoves truly liberated the woman from lifelong drudgery that kitchen was just over half a dozen decades ago.  It reduced the hours in front of the chulah in unhygienic and hot-sweaty conditions, made cooking easier and something to be enjoyed even by men, and even reduced the hard work that was necessary earlier to clean the utensils used in cooking.

More improvement

Today’s gas stoves are technologically better. Easy to use, they cook food faster and are energy efficient. They also look great in the kitchen. Compact, convenient and even portable, they are now an asset to a modern kitchen. Most nuclear families use two-burner stoves, but bigger families or the need to cook all the food within a short time span could persuade the families to go in for four-burner stoves.

The modern four-burner gas stoves usually have a toughened glass cooktop or a cooktop of comparable material. They have four high efficiency brass burners.  The burners have three rows of flame. This ensures a more uniform and even heat distribution. The flame is blue ensuring that the heated exteriors of the cookware are not blackened. The burners have coated pan supports and stainless steel drip trays.  The stoves have a powder-coated sheet metal base, which is easy to clean. The spacing between the burners is sufficient to prevent any inconvenience while cooking on all the four burners at the same time. And even large vessels can be comfortably used for cooking.

Efficient and convenient

A gas stove can control the cooking temp easily. It can be switched on instantly using either auto-ignition or manual ignition. Maximum heat can be applied to the cooking vessel in an instant. The gas can be turned off just as easily as it is started. That means the heating is switched off fully and instantly. This is a great advantage in cooking and it also improves efficiency by eliminating wastage of heat.
